Don’t Tell the President: The Best, Worst, and Mostly Untold Stories from Presidential Advance

Jean Becker and Tom Collamore reveal the elaborate preparation behind presidential appearances, journeys, and ceremonies. Drawing on their own White House experience and stories from other advance staff, they describe the people who arrange everything before a president arrives, from crowds and transport to the smallest details of protocol. Their accounts follow moments when careful plans nearly collapsed, showing how improvisation, discretion, and teamwork kept public events moving. Across administrations and decades, the book offers an intimate view of the logistical labor that supports the presidency and the memorable mistakes that sometimes escape into public view.
